H 54 × B 62 cm

Oil on canvas Unsigned A lively townscape in which historic façades, market stalls and small groups of figures form the setting for everyday life. On the left, a tall building with a stepped gable dominates the composition. On the right, a pale façade and the stall awnings catch the warm sunlight. Passers-by and marketgoers lend scale and movement to the street. The contrast between the shaded foreground and the sunlit vista creates spatial depth. Warm earth tones are combined with a pale blue sky and softly luminous clouds. Dating from the eighteenth to nineteenth century, the work brings together architectural detail and a narrative depiction of urban life. An ornate gilt-coloured frame enhances its classical character. Canvas dimensions: 36 cm high by 44 cm wide Frame dimensions: 54 cm high by 62 cm wide
