Restoration & preservation

At Art-Leap, we believe that exceptional objects deserve to be preserved. An antique piece of furniture, painting or interior object carries traces of its history. It is precisely this age, craftsmanship and character that makes an object special. Restoration, to us, does not mean returning an object to a perfect new state, but carefully preserving and repairing what is already there.

Depending on the object, we work with specialised restorers and craftspeople. Their expertise ranges from furniture and wood restoration to French polishing, veneer, leather, fittings and other specialist work. A suitable specialist can also be engaged for paintings and frames. Each object is assessed according to its own material, age and condition.

Respect for the original character is always central. Signs of use and patina do not automatically have to disappear; they may form part of an object’s history and appearance. Where intervention is necessary, we aim for a careful and appropriate treatment in which preservation comes first.

Craftsmanship takes time

A good restoration is rarely a quick repair. Damage that appears minor can require more work than is visible at first glance. Removing local damage from a finished tabletop, for example, may mean that a larger surface needs to be treated again. A loose joint in a chair can also require the careful dismantling, cleaning and re-gluing of several connections.

We therefore do not choose quick solutions when these would come at the expense of the object. We discuss the necessary treatment, the available options and the expected costs as clearly as possible in advance. When specialist work is needed, we coordinate it with the relevant craftsperson.

A sustainable choice

Restoration also means preserving what already exists. Rather than replacing an object, existing materials, craftsmanship and history are valued anew, giving a quality piece of furniture or work of art a longer life.

This reflects the idea behind Art-Leap: selecting timeless objects that were not made for one interior or one generation, but can retain their value and character over time.

A carefully restored object is therefore more than something functional. It is a piece of history being prepared for its next chapter.
