Belgian School (XX), Falconers on Horseback

At auction

H 40 × B 50 cm

Oil on panel, signed. A lively depiction of Oriental falconers on horseback in a sweeping, open landscape. On the right, three riders draw the eye with their colourful robes and carefully rendered horses. One carries a bird of prey on his raised hand, while other birds pursue their quarry high in the sky. Smaller mounted figures on the horizon enhance the sense of depth. The low horizon leaves ample room for the pale, cloud-filled sky. Warm red and brown accents contrast with the cool blues and greys of the surroundings. The clothing, horses and hunting scene lend the work an Orientalist character. The dark, decorative frame provides a striking setting for the luminous composition. Canvas dimensions: 30 cm high by 40 cm wide Frame dimensions: 40 cm high by 50 cm wide
